Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji ^new^

Malladihalli is a village located in the Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district in Karnataka, India. The town gained prominence due to the presence of Sri Raghavendra Swamiji, who established a mutt (monastery) there. He is often referred to as the "Father of Kannada Yoga" for his relentless efforts in demystifying yoga and making it accessible to the common man, irrespective of caste or creed.

He was a staunch proponent of Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations), viewing it as a complete exercise for holistic health. He introduced it into school curriculums across the region.

Influence and legacy

Swamiji organized massive, free yoga camps across villages and towns. He taught millions of people the art of Pranayama, Asanas, and Surya Namaskar.

In August 2024, the Trust organized a grand three-day Punyaradhana event at the Ashram in Malladihalli. The schedule included Brindavana Puja, bhajans, and essay and speech competitions for local school and college students, ensuring that the Swamiji's vision of integrating service with education continues to thrive. malladihalli sri raghavendra swamiji

It is important to distinguish him from the 16th-century saint of Mantralaya, a Vaishnava scholar known for his contributions to Dvaita Vedanta. Malladihalli Swamiji is a 20th-century figure focused primarily on yoga, Ayurveda, and the upliftment of the poor.

(1890–1996), affectionately remembered by millions as Tiruka ("beggar"), was a legendary Yogacharya, Ayurvedic physician, and social reformer from Karnataka, India. Operating from the tiny, remote village of Malladihalli in the Chitradurga district, he spent over seven decades democratizing the ancient sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda. He chose the pen name because he literally begged for funds from the public to construct schools, colleges, and hospitals for the poor. He lived a life of rigorous discipline, reportedly teaching Yoga to more than 4.5 million people and treating over 3 million patients entirely free of surgical intervention.
