The plot picks up right where the first film left off. The Central Park Zoo animals—Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith)—are still stranded on the island of Madagascar. With the help of the crafty, military-minded penguins, they manage to repair an old, dilapidated plane and attempt to fly back to New York.
