The film is a spiritual sequel to the 2014 hit Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania . It follows Badrinath "Badri" Bansal (Varun Dhawan), a wealthy but poorly educated young man from Jhansi, and Vaidehi Trivedi (Alia Bhatt), an ambitious, highly educated woman from Kota.
